Children's Book Ireland (CBI) reikt sinds 1990 jaarlijks de Bisto Book of the Year Award uit aan Ierse auteurs en illustrators van kinder- en jeugdboeken. Heel wat internationaal bekende auteurs ontvingen reeds deze prestigieuze award, o.a. Eoin Colfer, John Boyne, Kate Thompson & Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick.De 21e Bisto Book Award gaat dit jaar naar Chris Haughton voor zijn kinderboek A bit lost (Mama kwijt). Vorige week nog werd datzelfde boek in Nederland uitgeroepen tot Prentenboek van het jaar 2012.
Verder werden nog een vijftal prijzen uitgereikt, nl.:
- Bisto Honour Award: Sheena Wilkinson - Taking Flight
- Bisto Honour Award for Illustration: Caitríona Hastings & Andrew Whitson - Mac Rí Éireann
- Eilís Dillon Award for a first children's book: Chris Haughton - A bit lost (Mama kwijt)
- The Special Judges Award: Oliver Jeffers - Heart and the Bottle (Het hart in de fles)
- Children´s Choice Award: Sheena Wilkinson - Taking Flight
